Comeback Story.

Last night I was sitting in my living room watching, “We Are Marshall,” which is probably one of my favorite sports movies of all time—right up there with “Remember the Titans” and “Coach Carter.” There is just something about watching a team overcome adversity, something about them defying all the odds, something about a comeback.

We hear about comeback stories all the time—especially in sports. Adrian Peterson, whose torn ACL and MCL would lead anyone to believe his career was over, yet just 10 months after his injury he ended the 2012 season as the NFL Rushing Leader and took his team to the playoffs. Or the Boston Red Sox, who in the 2004 ALCS game against the New York Yankees, won a seven-game series after trailing 3-0 ---pushing them on to the World Series. And I know we all can’t wait to see the greatly anticipated Derrick Rose comeback this 2014 season! Ha
The greatest part of comeback stories? It makes us believe anything is possible.
Whether you realize it or not, we have all had comeback moments in our own lives. Studying all night to make an A on an exam. Taking your sports team to playoffs. The list goes on and on. There is always an opportunity for a comeback in our lives.
What you might not know is that the Christian story is a story of comebacks. The Bible itself tells of comeback after comeback. From Moses, who lost his temper and killed a man, to God using him to go against one of the most powerful Pharaohs of the time to free the Hebrews from slavery. Or Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers, was eventually put in charge of all of Egypt.
Our God is a God of comebacks. And our story is a story of a people who have fallen but found hope in Jesus. God wants to give everyone their own comeback story but He wants to be involved.
Personally, God found me my sophomore year of college and is still working on my comeback story today. One day you might find yourself in the darkest point of your life. Maybe your grades are failing and nothing you do helps. Or your relationships are falling apart. Or someone important in your life hurts you. These are the days where God wants you to realize, “You can’t, but I can.” God isn’t afraid of darkness! No situation is too broken or too late for him to step in and fix.
The power of our story is that God is not to be counted out. He wants our comeback story to be advertised on billboards, played in theatres across the globe, and talked about by millions. He wants our story to be a major comeback story through Him and His power.
Major point of this post?
Don’t ever count God out. He only needs a breath to change someone’s life.
